Iran has warned Israel not to intervene militarily in the Gaza Strip, calling for a political solution before it is too late.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian argued from Beirut today that it is still possible to avoid a “generalized crisis” in the Middle East, commenting on fears of a flare-up in the region following the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.
“There is still a political opportunity to avoid a generalized crisis in the region ,” Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said, but warned that “it may be too late in the next few hours.”
In the statements he made from the Iranian embassy in Beirut, Amir-Abdollahian reiterated that Iran’s allies, which are called the “Axis of Resistance” and consist of Iran itself, Hezbollah and thousands of Iraqi Shiites who, as you were told by the pronews.gr have been deployed on the Lebanon-Israel border through Syria, “they may react in the event of an escalation of Israeli operations in Gaza”.
Israel and the US fear the opening of a second front on the border with Lebanon if Iran-backed Hezbollah decides to intervene in the war against Hamas in Gaza.
“The resistance (in Israel) on other fronts has considered all possible scenarios, it has its finger on the trigger,” he warned.
According to experts, Hezbollah could open a new front if Israel launches ground operations in Gaza.
Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that Abdollahian held talks with Hamas official Saleh al-Aruri and Islamic Jihad leader Ziad al-Nakhla. After Beirut, the Iranian minister will continue his tour in Qatar.
Although Tehran backs Hamas, the Iranian leadership insists it was not involved in the Palestinian Islamist group’s attack on Israel that killed more than 1,300 people.
